Alms House

It is located inside the castle, in Socratus Street in front of Süleymaniye Mosque. It was built by Suleiman The Magnificent after the conquerence of the island, in order to build Madrasah, mosque and to give food to teachers of Mesjid and the poors. The translation on the court wall of the Arabic inscription is as follows: "This food is given to you for the approval of Allah". It is a building that belongs to Süleymaniye Waqf. Alms House is composed of the main building and the kitchen building. The restoration made by Rhodes Museum is completed today. The alms house buildings are used as exhibition saloons and as cafés.
