Orta Mezarlık Mosque

The mosque was located near the Turkish Cemetery known as the ‘Middle Cemetery’ and was located just outside of the downtown area of Serres. Records show a letter from the Selânik (Thessaloniki) District governor, Mustafa Hıfzı, dated 26 Ra, 1264 (March 2, 1848) concerning repairs to the mosque located in this cemetery (BOA, A.MKT, 113/19). Kaftanzis contains a photograph of the mosque (Kaftanzis, 1996, p.183). Built in the 14th Century, it was demolished by the Bulgarians in 1912 (Turing Club Bulletin, 1948, pp. 74-75).
