Mahmud Çelebi Mosque

Located at 32 Kyriotissis Street next to the Karaferye Byzantine Museum on the south city walls. It is registered under the bylaw of Ministry of Cultural Affairs on December 10, 1964, Number: 16385 and the bylaw of Official Gazette on January 16, 1965, Number: 30/B. From the outside it looks like a simple house with a tiled roof but it has a nice, fluted minaret which was well built. The minaret would have created an impressive effect on those who came to visit Karaferye. Unfortunately, it collapsed, probably due to neglect caused by its Ottoman association, in 1940 (Matskani- Margie, 2005). It is just one of the mosques which share this name. It is being used as a house today.
